Born into a farming family in Karnataka’s Mandya District in 1981, Eregowda’s journey to filmmaking was anything but conventional. His diverse career path includes roles as a house servant, office boy, driver, security guard, and gardener before he found his true calling in cinema.
Eregowda’s breakthrough came with the acclaimed film ‘Thithi,’ directed by Raam Reddy. He made significant contributions as the scriptwriter, second unit director, line producer, and casting director. His exceptional work earned him the Asia New Talent Award for ‘Best Screenplay’ at the 2016 Shanghai International Film Festival and the Karnataka State Award for ‘Best Dialogue Writer.’
Eregowda’s directorial debut, ‘Balekempa,’ a fiction feature, won the FIPRESCI award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2018. He continued to garner accolades with his documentary ‘Sarala Virala,’ which won the 66th National Award for Best Educational Film in 2019. Eregowda’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to award-winning filmmaker is a testament to his talent, resilience, and passion for storytelling.
